Thailand-Bangkok

It's been a while since I've posted an update on our lives, probably because there was not much new to report until now. We just came home from our annual Swantek adventure, this year we chose Thailand and Cambodia.

Our first stop was Bangkok. We wandered around the huge city the first day and walked off our jet lag. We came across this woman dressed in traditional attire.
We happened upon this little street restaurant that served amazing phad thai. It was delicious!
The second day we had a guide to help us navigate some of the major sites. Our first stop was the impressive Grand Palace. On our way in we watched the Thai version of the changing of the guards.

The palace was the Royal residence and political center from 1782 to 1925.
Modesty is required inside, and it was hot and muggy, so you will notice a sheen on our face in all of these photos.
While the monarchy no longer lives here it's still used for formal events.

You can see they like the color gold.

The king visited England and found that he didn't have a banquet hall like Buckingham Palace, so he had this structure built. It looks European on the main part with distinctly Thai architecture on top.

Our second stop was at Wat Pho, a temple housing a reclining Buddha. The structure is 40ft tall and 150ft long. It's HUGE!

Our guide told us that each of these Buddhas was donated to the temple by a different family.
Next stop, lunch. The food was delicious!

After lunch it started to our rain, so we took a ride on a longtail boat.
Scotty was fascinated by the huge motors used to propel these boats.
Bangkok has canals where you can get a glimpse of everyday Thai life.
From the more rustic....
To the more upscale accommodations.

We also went to a flower and food market.
A large bunch of orchids for $1. You can also see that by this point we were pretty wet.
Huge green beans.
Spicy peppers.
