Jodphur-Mehrangarh Fort

We visited the Mehrangarh Fort in Jodphur today, built in the 15th century.. While it's called a fort, it was actually the royal residence for the Maharaja and his family until the 19th century. While the Maharaja has no official power (India abolished the royal families in 1950) he still lives a royal life-he owns many of the major hotels in the area, some within the walls of former palaces.

The fort is high up on the hill above town, and once again we were blown away by the majesty of the place. It was crazy warm while we visited, so pardon the sweat dripping down our faces...

Jodphur is also known as the blue city, as many of the houses are painted blue.
